Engineering Geology of
North Central Texas Shales

As previously described, this course covers both the problems and solutions related to highly problematic, heavily over-consolidated Cretaceous shales with low slope stability, low shear strength and low bearing capacity, as well as high potential volume change and high shrink-swell properties.  In particular, the Eagle Ford Shale, the Pepper Shale and the Del Rio Clay are emphasized, along with the Austin Chalk.

Vector Mathematics and Mathematical Applications to Geology:

This new course covers scalar or dot products, vector or cross products, the scalar triple product, vector calculus, the concepts of gradient, divergence and curl and various other mathematical topics with applications to the solution of geological problems.  An example of the material covered in this course is shown in the panel illustrated below:
