Dr. Robert Font (robertfontphd@gmail.com) has 50 years of professional experience in the geological sciences. Font received his BS and MS degrees from Baylor University and his PhD from Texas A&M University in engineering geology and tectonophysics (soil and rock mechanics). Font was a tenured professor at Baylor University, a Senior Geologist, Project Supervisor and Area Geologist at Conoco, Inc., Executive Vice President at Strategic Petroleum, Inc., and a Consulting Geologist at Oryx Energy Company before founding his own firm, Geoscience Data Management, Inc. (GDM). Font led GDM as President and CEO for 23 years until his retirement at the end of 2013. Currently, Font offers his online courses through the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) and the American Geosciences Institute (AGI). He also authors a technical column in "The Professional Geologist" as published quarterly by the AIPG. During his professional career, Font taught various professional courses nationally and internationally.
Dr. Font has published widely and is a "Certified Professional and Petroleum Geologist" as recognized by the AIPG, AAPG and SIPES. He is a "Registered Professional Geologist" in Texas, Kentucky, Wyoming and Alaska. Font holds the titles of "Chartered Geologist" as recognized by the Geological Society of London and "European Geologist" as awarded by the European Federation of Geologists. He is also a "Fellow" of the Geological Society of America, "Fellow" of the Geological Society of London and a "Registered Environmental Manager" with the National Registry of Environmental Professionals.
Dr. Font has been the recipient of various professional awards including the "Professor of the Year Award in Geophysics" by Conoco, Inc., and the Martin Van Couvering Memorial Award, Ben H. Parker Memorial Medal and Award of Honorary Membership granted by the AIPG. Font served as President of the Dallas Geological Society, President of the Texas Section of the AIPG and National AIPG President.
Font is fluent in English and Spanish, and proficient in French and Italian with reading ability of Portuguese.
Font has traveled widely to over 50 countries in 4 continents. He enjoys physical fitness, scuba diving, playing guitar, motorcycling and target shooting.
